more details

Here is some background information that will help clarify and explain some topics regarding CAD and it's most common uses

CAD, or Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD), is technology that enables creators to design, draft, and produce technical documentation digitally, replacing traditional hand-drawn techniques.

CAD is used in fields like architecture, engineering, interior design, and manufacturing for tasks such as drafting building plans, designing machinery, creating product prototypes, and developing detailed construction documents

Some of the most common include

  • Architect
  • Civil Engineer
  • Structural Engineer
  • Mechanical Engineer
  • Electrical Engineer
  • Interior Designer
  • Landscape Architect
  • Urban Planner
  • Construction Manager
  • Industrial Designer
  • Draftsman

Most popular include AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, CATIA, SketchUp, Fusion 360, Rhino, MicroStation, Inventor, and BricsCAD.

Autodesk, Revit, and Sketchup will be further elaborated below

Autodesk's AutoCAD is most commonly used for creating detailed 2D and 3D drawings and designs in various fields such as architecture, engineering, and construction.

It is widely utilized for drafting floor plans, building layouts, technical schematics, and detailed illustrations.

Autodesk's Revit is used to create detailed 3D architectural models, allowing designers to visualize and plan buildings accurately, including floor plans,  elevations, sections and 3D views.

Most commonly used for Architecture, Engineering, and Construction

Trimble Inc.'s SketchUp is most commonly used for creating 3D models in architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture.

Its intuitive interface and powerful modeling tools make it popular for conceptual design, visualizing spaces, and generating detailed architectural renderings.
